+ arcivescovo Lauro

Dear Guests,
This year, once again, a different Trentino will welcome you. We said this in the wake of Vaia. We repeat it now, the air still weighted down by the emergency. The territory to which you are coming back on vacation, or which you will have the privilege to discover for the first time is among those in Italy most affected by the pandemic. Not unlike the situation in many of your homes, we mourned the passing of many elderly members of the community; we grieved for their families, having been denied one last goodbye; we shed tears for those who have heavily suffered the psychological and financial consequences of the never-ending weeks of lockdown.
If you are now welcomed by a joyful Trentino, stay assured that nobody has forgotten and is willing to forget the repercussions of these past months. The scar remains clearly visible, as shown by the restrictive measurements which are in place even here in the mountains, a area which one associated with freedom and a space without borders.
The challenge presented by this summer in Trentino will be precisely this: view the limits as a resource, an opportunity for paying attention to others rather than to ourselves, a great moment of collective responsibility. Similarly to the transition from quarantine to “phase 2”, the quality of our life next autumn will depend on our behaviour during the current months. What we sow now will be reaped later in our homes, at work, at school, in hospitals, in our care homes.
Enjoy the wonders of a Father who was particularly generous with our valleys’ population. Be aware that this is not an instrumental gift: Creation is part of life for each one of us; likewise, we are an integral part of Creation. This makes us “a five star” gift;  for this, we must show gratitude to God, as every new sun rises in these mountains.
